I see a ship in the harbour....a grey one with guns and bombs, whats that doing here? Are we at war? Better resurrect those gun emplacements at the entrance to the harbour, you never know who you might have to blow up...start with taking out some of those yachties mereckons. Bring back whale meat to the NZ diet! Oh if only we hadn't already killed them all...never mind we can import some from Japan...how about reinstating cannibalism? Mmmm oh to chew on some soft rubbery lips, ears, fingers... oh the Yum Cha! The pate! the tripe! Oh the tripe!

Happy things await us all....

RICHARD GILEWITZ (USA)
Acoustic Adventures on Guitar Richard Gilewitz's tales are trips into the world of a touring musician. His tunes are adventures, as his instrumental wanderings reveal surprises with each note. His shows feature the best of a man whose distinctive style and delivery create a warm glow of amazement, excitement and admiration. Featured in Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine's issue on "Men of Steel", Richard Gilewitz is again included in the ranks of noted guitarists who are masters at their craft. Once touted as one of the strangest men in acoustic music, this fingerstyle guitarist lives up to this depiction with his rousing performances filled with amazing chops, humor, and a history of the acoustic guitar from blues to folk, traditional to classical and somewhere in between. States Spectrum Magazine, "Much of the charm of a Gilewitz performance is in the stories he tells. He wondered aloud to the audience how many ducks he could take out in a fight if he were to be attacked by a flock of the sneaky waterfowl."

But it is his live shows that always brings out the best in this author, composer, guitarist, storyteller, and humorist who follows a distinct cadence that creates a glow that continually grows a little brighter with each tune. Whether playing solo, conducting guitar seminars and school programs, or sharing the stage with folks such as The California Guitar Trio, John McCutcheon, John Renbourn, Mose Allison, the late John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Norman Blake, Indigo Girls, John Hammond, Rory Block, or Jane Siberry, Richard Gilewitz always creates a sparkle of mood mastery and wonderment.

"You'll laugh as you learn." Columbus Dispatch // "His quick wit and twisted sense of humor has made him an entertainer as well as a fine guitarist." Fingerstyle Guitar Magazine "A powerhouse of eclectic guitar styles and genres, Gilewitz wears his influences well." 20th Century Guitar Magazine// "His complex, energetic originals have made Gilewitz popular on the festival and club circuits as a solo performer." Guitar Player Magazine

CHARLOTTE YATES
releases her latest album Beggars Choice
Beggar's Choice is the new studio album from singer-songwriter Charlotte Yates. Recorded in Wellington late 2007-early 2008 at Trident Sound Studios and Charlotte's own Semaphore Sound, Beggar's Choice showcases a fistful of new songs, bristling with her trademark lyricism and soulful melodies.
Charlotte worked with top rhythm section, Darren Mathiassen, drummer-in-demand, and the exquisitely tasteful Rob Winch on bass, to produce an organic, largely acoustic feel to the twelve new tracks, from the eerily sparse Given Up ( watch out for the video directed by Emma Robinson coming soon) to the wryly black Black Water. Elliotte Fuimaono guests on bass in the jauntily reggae-esque All Roads Lead to Rome, while Heaven Scent and Gifthorse swing the pendulum a little more rock side.

Beggar's Choice is Charlotte Yates' fifth solo album. The new material concludes with the delicate title track, Beggar's Choice, but the album ends with Mad, Yates's contribution to the Tuwhare tribute album, released in 2005.

DELGIRL (Dunedin)

Delgirl is a group of three Dunedin based women, who produce a unique blend of folk, roots, blues, jazz and alt country music resulting in beautiful big harmonies,
built around the double bass, guitar, banjo, ukuleles & snare/percussion.

Having recently released their debut album "two, maybe three, days ride", and being already on to their second pressing, they decided a jaunt to Wellington
for shameless self promotion and a trip to the Minnie Cooper shoe store was in order...

The Delgirls comment: "We've had a lot of play on National Radio, (churs RNZ) so people from all over NZ have been contacting us to see when we were coming up to play."

Delgirl have a strong following in the South Island, yet as William Dart noted in his review on Concert FM "...They've been around for seven years but so far
remain a South Island secret. I was hooked irretrievably from their opening song..."

If you like your NZ music tinged with the flavours of Americana and indie folk then Delgirl have got a place at the table set for you.

Their tunes have been compared to The Be Good Tanyas, Tres Chicas and the Triplets of Belleville. The Delgirl sound, according to
Graham Reid, (www.elsewhere.co.nz) "has uniquely close harmony, suggestions of alt.country and Polynesia, (with) understated balladry and smart lyrics".

More reviews are available on the bands website www.delgirl.co.nz and several tracks can be heard on their myspace page.www.myspace.com/delgirl
