[Af_List] discordia concors

discordia...thingy is a comp of hamilton music from about 1991?-92? but it also had some unreleased archival stuff too from earlier..... Frey started life at hamilton boys high school as "Bug" then "hey sam". their drummer was known as cymbalman cos he overplayed his cymbals. i heard the guitarist andrew was now a recluse in devonport making noise tapes?

some rubbish on that comp but some gems. "Frybrain" is on there who were the best.  don from surface of the earth was in them with stan jagger and steve grey. shy awkward heavy scratchy and swinging rock band. muffled pop crooning and tape loop soup.... they recorded this incredible album Goblin Ace that has never been released. Also Hand of Glory.  astounding old acoustic freaks passing round flagons of port playing on the floor/in the garden/street. making it up as they go along pop songs and atonal honking, random readings and jazz/skiffle standards.....

the best of that stuff was recorded and released on cassette by greg locke on his orange recordings label. also Wendy House, Watershed, The Emersons......

two of my first bands are on that comp too! ahh hamilton city of dreams.
