SONAR
REALIDAD
INTERIOR
..............................
SAM HAMILTON
SATURDAY 5th APRIL
1:30pm
(as in during the day time, after lunch like)
at the
DUNEDIN PUBLIC ART GALLERY
auditorium
...
sam will be presenting, sharing, listening and playing recordings recently
made over a 4 month project in south america recording the sound of reality
from the amazon rain forest of brazil and columbia to the atacama desert of
peru, and everything in between.
the main focus at this point it the early development of this stage of the
project (i.e. the post collection period of beginning to use and redefine
the actual recordings as artistic material) it is the focus of this concert
to create a situation of where musical, performative and experiencial
expectations are slowly disolved from the situation yet maintaining a high
level of intent listener focus traditionally associated with listening and
appreciating music, to allow enough space and freedom from musical
constraints for the rich sonic vocabulary that is embodied in the sounds in
the recordings to be noticed and to unfold for the listener the intoxicating
immersion of sonic existence thats such a pungent and often ill-aknowledged
aspect of all realities on this planet.
it should also just be a super relaxed, casual, calm and fun hour or 2 spend
drifting off or even falling asleep in a new sound environment. whether you
stay for 2 hours or 2 minutes, whether your imagination takes you to the
places you associate with the recorded sounds or whether your imagination
takes you somewhere completely and utterly beyond any comprehensible
reality, your all very welcome to come along :)
entry (or exit) by donation
thanks to the Starving Artists Fund www.starvingartistsfund.com for their
generous support and for CNZ for support with the Mamori Sound Project
and the DPAG and the Sound in the Cracks people for helping it happen
...
p.s. my apologies for the lame ass title, i came up with it and thought ah
fuck, how pretentious does that sound! so i decided to make it even more
pretentious sounding and translate it into Spanish (not that spanish is a
pretentious language, but you know what i mean) yeahhhhhanyhow, hopefully
the concert doesnt live up the the wankiness of the title, please feel free
to come up to me after the show and give me a slap in the face if you feel
it was :) haha
